Social Events and Excursions

Going Places

Coordinators Tony Lowe, John O'Connor, Chris Steele

Introduction
We work independently as a group in our own right, but importantly, with other Tiverton u3a groups, where a trip overlaps with the theme of that group, but has wider appeal to the whole membership. We also work with our neighbouring u3a' Exe Valley and Culm Valley, to make the trips as economical as possible, particularly if coach travel is required.

Considerations
Before arranging any event, the "Going Places" team researches facts relating to health and safety in order to fully support our members. Any particular issues relating to health and safety are listed on our group's webpage. However, it cannot be too strongly stated that members must take into account their own capabilities before joining groups and excursions. In addition, members must ensure they wear suitable apparel and walking aids to meet all weathers and ground conditions.

Announcing future trips
A global email will be sent from Beacon asking all members for an expression of interest for a particular event or venue and propose a date.
Judging on the response, we will form a new temporary group on Beacon, to enable further communication and updates to those interested with the names of all the members who are taking part to facilitate car sharing (see below)
Please use contact link on the Going Places Group page for enquiries re details of any specific trip.

Arrangements for payment
Arrangements for payment for each of these events will be set out in our u3a’s newsletter which is sent direct to members. They will vary from "Pay on the day" or if it's a package including travel and venue tickets, we are currently using the bank accounts of our team members, who will share BACS information and a deadline for payment. Please note, refunds are not possible in this circumstance.

Travel
A a rule of thumb, car sharing will be encouraged if the trip is within 1 hr travelling distance. We will arrange coach travel if further. Probably not an aeroplane just yet.
