Short trek: ‘trek’ implies a bit of effort, so gradients are at some point involved, often on Dartmoor, Exmoor, the Brendons or the Quantocks, although visits to the rest of Devon and Somerset (Dorset too, occasionally) aren’t exactly flat. But the important point is that we travel through beautiful countryside which deserves to be appreciated, so expect to go at a pace which also allows you to do this.
Distances will be around 5 to 8 miles, the very occasional shorter walk providing the opportunity for a pub lunch afterwards, while a packed lunch is always necessary on the longer ones (which are often followed, though, by an convivial finale in a convenient pub or cafe – optional, of course, but pleasant). Summer treks start at 10.30, while winter ones change to 10 a.m.
Members have the chance to contribute walks of their choice if they wish.
